Legacy Individual Awards Program
AWARDS: Junior Leadership Legacy Award – The top fourteen (14) applicants selected will qualify to attend the ICDC Leadership Development Academy (LDA). All applicants will be judged by a panel and scores totaled for each participant.
Senior Leadership Legacy Award – The top seven (7) applicants will qualify to attend the International Career Development Conference Senior Management Institute (SMI).
Special Notes (Junior and Senior Leadership Legacy Award):
All applicants will be judged by a panel and scores totaled for each participant. A winner from each chapter (up to the maximum of allocations for the state of Nebraska) will be selected. If there are not enough applicants from different chapters to fill the state allocation, the point totals assigned by the judging panel will be used to select additional nominees until the allocation has been filled.
Qualification through competition or selection as a state officer at the State Career Development Conference eliminates applicants from selection for this award and participation in the International CDC Leadership Academy.
Living a Legacy-Individual Application Forms are due March 1 to Nebraska DECA.

Bob Foehlinger Living a Legacy Chapter Awards Program
OBJECTIVE: To develop a living legacy in memory of one of Bob (Bobby) Foehlinger, one of DECA’s finest State and National Officers. Bob served as Nebraska DECA Vice President of Membership Services (1998-99) and Central Region DECA Vice President (1999-2000)
AWARDS: Trophies will be given for 1st-3rd place applications. Winning chapters also qualify to take up to three participants to ICDC to attend the Chapter Management Academy.
- Bob Foehlinger Scholarship/Memorial Campaign (30 points)
- Chapter Marketing Activity-Community/School Outreach or Recruitment (30 points)
- Chapter Civic Activity (30 points)
- Neatness, grammar, spelling, use of appropriate formatting (10 points)
SCORING: Total of 100 points. Maximum of 30 points for each of the three areas; 10 points for neatness, grammar, spelling, and use of appropriate formatting.
General Guidelines:
- Documentation must be in a DECA folio.
- Documentation is limited to 10 pages (one side only). No points are deducted for an entry containing fewer pages.
- Documentation must be postmarked to Nebraska DECA by March 1. No late documentation will be accepted.
- Winners will be judged on the point system. Content of the notebook will be used to decide the quality of the activities.
- Points will be given only for activities that fit within the three activity areas.
- Nebraska DECA reserves the right not to announce winners if the entries do not reflect quality activities.
- Documentation may include, but is not limited to copies of news articles, flyers, newspaper advertisements, and photos. Documentation from the radio/TV station(s) is required for the public service spots.
- Title page of project is to include: DECA Living a Legacy Awards program, chapter name, chapter president’s name, chapter advisor’s name, and the date.
- The sections of the entry should be organized as follows:
- Section I – Bob Foehlinger Scholarship/Memorial Campaign (30 points)
- Section II – Chapter Marketing Activity-Community/School Outreach or Recruitment (30 points)
- Section III – Chapter Civic Activity-Marketing & Management (30 points)
Scoring: Applicants must document each of the three categories of activities. A total of 100 points (maximum of 30 points for each of the three areas chosen and 10 points for neatness, grammar, spelling, and use of appropriate formatting) is possible.
- Bob Foehlinger Scholarship/Memorial Campaign – Document the chapter’s efforts to raise contributions for the Bob Foehlinger “Living a Legacy” Scholarship Endowment Campaign. Chapters that made a contribution at the end of the school year may count that contribution for that school year. The documentation should explain and document the activity or activities. The amount of the total contribution to the endowment fund will not be a major determining factor in the selection. Rather, it is the effectiveness of the events in promoting the ideals of “Live, Love, Learn and Leave a Legacy” that Bob Foehlinger based his life upon that will be considered valid determining factors.
- Chapter Marketing Activity – Document the chapter’s involvement in an activity or activities to increase or enhance awareness of marketing education and DECA in the school or community. The focus of this activity must be the promotion and marketing of the benefits of marketing education and DECA, not community service. This activity must not be the same as the Chapter Civic Activity.
- Chapter Civic Activity – Document the chapter’s civic/community involvement activity or activities and the planning, implementation and evaluation of the success of the event. Civic involvement need not involve fundraising for a charity or organization. Rather, the focus is on service to the community and its citizens. Neatness (10 points) Word processing is highly recommended. Points based on neatness, grammar, spelling, and use of appropriate formatting.

National Marketing Education Honor Award
PURPOSE: The purpose of the National Marketing Education Honor Award is to provide recognition of marketing education students for their academic excellence, leadership and involvement in DECA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To receive the National Marketing Education Honor Award a student must:
- be a National DECA member
- be a senior
- have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.2 for the seven previous semesters (with 4.0 being equal to an A)
- participate in at least three of the areas listed under DECA activities, leadership and community/school activities
Completed applications must be received by National DECA no later than February 1.
APPLICATION COMPONENTS:
- Copy of the official DECA roster to verify that the applicant is a National DECA member.
- An application fee of $5.00 must accompany the application.
